Neuromodulators are injectable products derived from botulinum toxin, used for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles on the forehead, brow area (eleven lines), around the eyes (Crow’s feet), in the neck area, jawline and around the mouth. Over time, when we use our muscles for facial expression, the creases created from this movement become more prominent. By relaxing the movement of our facial muscles, we can prevent the formation and progression of the wrinkles. These toxins have also been shown to slow the breakdown of collagen in skin.
Toxin injections last approximately 3-4 months, although some patients have reported effects up to 6 months. You will notice initial improvement within 5 days and the full effect of your treatment at 2 weeks. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and the majority of patients report that toxin injections are very comfortable.
Neuromodulators can also be used to treat areas off the face, such as the trapezius muscle (for neck slimming and shoulder tension) and the calves. Dr. Fisher is an expert at using neuromodulators for body contouring and has been invited to present on this topic at national meetings to share her techniques.
